(Webmaster's
comment: York Stars
was established in in Toronto 2001. On their website is stated
that they travelled several inter-national events, including
Germany and Sweden. This is incorrect. Their coach,
Katrin Pettinen, did travel to these events but only when working
for "Rhythmic Elite Centre".)
The Aesthetic division
of Rhythmic Gymnastic evolves around body movements that are
choreographed to music, accompanied with interesting apparatus
including ribbon, hoop, ball or rope. The training develops
poise, grace, flexibility and strength. An excellent form of
physical fitness, developing coordination and self-confidence.
The
Aesthetic programs content is different from that of the Competitive
gymnasts who work as individuals.
Aesthetic performers
train, compete
and perform as a group, using all of the same apparatus and fundamental movements
as the competitive division. The focus is on the unison that
the group attains as well as their technical and physical talents.
The gymnasts train intensively, developing a performance repertoire
with which to promote the sport and the club at local, national
and international events.
Our routines are very unique,
with a fresh young approach combining classic rhythmic skills
with modern dance movements, even incorporating some cheerleading
tricks when appropriate. Our gymnasts relate to their routines,
music and the movements. They have a lot of fun while keeping
fit and learning how to work as a team.
York Stars currently has 3
groups of gymnasts training Aesthetic Gymnastics under coach
Katrin Pettinen: Junior, Pre-senior and Senior ranging in age
from 8 to 19 years old. The girls have all worked their way
through the recreational ranks and have now moved on to the
Elite Performing Groups. The gymnasts have been training anywhere
from 2 years up to 14 years.
Acceptance in these groups
is by tryout only. The girls have traveled locally, nationally
and internationally to participate in competitions and performances
travelling as far as Italy, Estonia, and to Ottawa and London, Ontario, and Moncton,
New Brunswick, to participate in Canadian and Ontario Gymnaestradas. Also to the 12th World Gymnaestrada in Lisbon, Portugal in July 2003;
and to the Festival Del Sol in Italy, July, 2006. |
